Shannon L Gaub - Artist and Teacher
I’m a realist painter who has a passion for capturing the way light interacts with forms. My paintings are either about grasping the beauty of everyday objects or using those objects to convey a visual narrative. I enjoy still-life painting because I can control the narrative by manipulating the design, composition, and lighting. This allows me to weave the beginnings of a story the empowers the viewer to complete for themselves.
I have always had a propensity for creative expression. I began drawing at a young age and by college, I also started writing. Although my professional career took me down the path of computer programming and systems analysis, my love of art never wavered. When I seriously returned to my artwork about 7 years ago, I became obsessed with the desire to draw and paint.
My favorite mediums are oil, charcoal, and graphite. I’m currently an atelier student at Gage Academy in Seattle.
I teach workshops at various studios, where I strive to create a positive, engaging, and encouraging experience for each student in my class. And to have fun!
I’m passionate about helping my students unlock their artistic potential, and love to see their accomplishments along with the joy that art brings. I am a firm believer that creating art is a gift we give ourselves, a way to connect to our world, and even to navigate stressful times because it slows us down and allows us to relax and simply be in the moment.
